A throwback for generations of beauty-lovers, we tried out the new products.

There's no sign of Boots slowing down when it comes to expanding its beauty offering, now boasting an incredible range from heritage luxury brands to cult industry disruptors and of course, all our drug store favourites. But this launch is personal. The retailer is bringing back the budget 17 makeup line. Originally launched back in 1968 it was sold in Boots stores for 50 years before it was discontinued.

A brand familiar to generations of beauty lovers, it's making a comeback with a new look and new formulations to offer vegan and cruelty-free products everyone has access to. Think £2 lipsticks and £5 eyeshadow palettes.

Jenna Whittingham-Ward, Head of Beauty - Boots Brands, said: "We believe beauty is for everyone, and affordable cosmetics doesn’t have to mean a compromise on quality. That’s why we’re so excited to bring a fresh, new-look 17 to our beauty-loving customers at Boots."

The GH beauty team had a play with some of the products ahead of the launch and picked out their favourites from the super affordable range.

Beauty Editor, Gillian Davies was impressed with the gloss offering, telling us; "For a flattering finish you can’t beat a slick of lip gloss. Their high-shine texture creates a plumper, fuller-looking shape to lips and happily 17’s version doesn’t disappoint. Creamy, comfortable and with a hint of shine, the Lacquer Gloss, £4, feels like a nourishing balm. The 8 shades in the range span from a punchy dark burgundy to an everyday rose pink and are incredibly long-lasting without any dryness."

While Beauty Writer Medina was a fan of the eye products; "17’s back with a blockbuster roster of products but if I had to pick one, it would be the Eye Pigment shadow stick. The shimmer catches the light so beautifully, and it has a slight balminess to the texture which creates an almost dewy finish. I also think eyeshadow sticks are great to have in your arsenal, as they’re foolproof to use."

"The eye palette ranks high in terms of versatility," she added, continuing; "There are 9 shades in a palette; a nice balance of neutral and statement hues that makes it easy to dial up or down. It goes on smoothly and has excellent colour payoff without being tricky to blend."

The line also includes, foundations, translucent powder, highlighters, brow products, blush and more, with over 170 products. It's sure to be a hit with the experimental TikTok loving Gen z, just as it has been for generations of teens and tweens, but there's some super pocket friendly buys in there to suit any age or taste.
